Next up will be Severn tunnel east, a micro layout 8 foot long, I'm making up some 60 foot track panels ready, I will get some timber to make the boards shortly. My good friend Jon fitness will be making the signals two of them both with working mechanisms & lights. I'm having the tunnel mouths laser cut along with a signal box and lineside hit. My plan is to make 8 foot layouts in O gauge picking some well known spots on the former GWR & hopefully sell them on reinvesting the profits into Ranelagh Bridge. A lot of us o gaugers are space starved so by doing them in 8 foot hopefully it will fit into most people's available space. The new owner can either pop in to a roundy roundy or pop fiddle yards / cassettes either side & run trains & they will be idle for exhibition use. The other good thing about being 8 foot long is you don't need long trains as you can only see about 5 coaches & a locomotive in one go.
I actually like the way the office roof cuts in and out of the shed wall, makes it look like the office was built at a later date . for the Severn cutting Steve, try laying a sheet or large piece of cardboard down, put the track on top and then raise the sides up on a couple of 8" supports. With the tunnel mouth in place you will get a better visual idea of how things will look and you can play around, raising and lowering the sides and moving the sheet about making the cutting steeper and flatter until you get the result you want Cheers matt
Great minds and all that!! The angle of the tunnel mouth cut is the angle of the bank. I decided to get some stock out so I could take a few measurements and to get a scale of things. Attached files
A Hymek rolls down the bank on an empty oil train. I will retake these pictures in a few months time once complete. I hope this will show you can take a section of main line model it in 8 foot that way it saves you having to have masses of stock as you can only see a loco plus 5 coaches max. Attached files
The engine shed is a piece of art, very nice indeed. I'll be looking forward to teh continuing story of Severn Tunnel East extension. Cheers, Gary.
A paint job on my dads scratch built signal box, it needs a few more washes on the roof to complete. Attached files
Next signal box in for painting from my dads scratch built models is Bewdley south signal box, I've just done the brick work & roof on this one although I think I might do a few more coats on the light & dark stone. Attached files
Dapol 5 plank wagon with a spot of dirt, I think I will change the brake handle on my two Dapol wagons Attached files
You O gauge guys are not making this easy for me to stay with 4mm Even the rtr wagons can make me drool - says a lot about me I suppose. Paul
