The Weymouth goods shed looks like a great building around which to build a plank. It would be great for a slightly oversize shunting layout. Mmmmmm. Toto
I finished up the tiling yesterday, I'm having a quiet day today but I'll be right back on with it tomorrow. Guttering and vents and that will just about finish the construction, I have an order in with C&L for chairs and rail to finish up the pits hopefully by the weeks end. Then it will be on to a layout / diorama Severn Tumnel East. Attached files
Hi Steve Like the building, for roof tiles I have the advantage of a plotter cutter, so take this approach I print out a grid from Excel (5 x 4 mm), then stick this to the roof former. Then a piece of art paper is roughly painted with thi dark grey acrylic paint. This loaded into the plotter cutter and cut into strips I then touch up the cut edge with a alcohol based paint, or a fresh coat of acrylic paint to darken the edges. These are then glued on to the former, aligned to the grid I form the flashing with silver crepe paper, and on the ridge use a piece of spaggetti as a former. Paul
We get away with thicker papers as Scottish slate is thicker than Welsh slate. The cutter is really handy to produce multiples - I use it mainly for slates and sash windows Here cutting the slates. The Zing shown above would be handy for 0 gauge modellers, as the standard 12"x12" cutting mat, can be replaced with a 12" x 24" cutting mat, easily capable of taking A3 paper. Once Victoria Road is finished, I will have a try at making an 0 gauge wagon, as the cutter plotter can emboss as well cut. Paul
This will be the next project that I will be starting shortly, the signals have been ordered from Jon Fitness, the signal box plate is on order from narrow planet and Intentio will be laser cutting the tunnel mouths, signal box and lineside hut. It will be 8 foot long and will be a self contained layout that could be fitted in to a roundy roundy or fiddle yards either side but that will be up to the new owner. Attached files
Hi Steve, It looks good. Almost a cut out section of Highbridge with the embankment and Signal box. I'll look forward to see where you go with this. Cheers Toto
An interesting project Steve ! I like the way you will have to 'look over' and down into the cutting to see it. will one end be open so you can look along the length ? Cheers Matt
Here's a mock up of the Severn Tunnel in full size to check out dimensions, it's going to be a nice piece Attached files
Knowing the size of the locos, that is going to be, considering your previous work, a very impressive structure, can,t wait! Pete.
Steve Fay wrote: I'm involved in roofing a similar building, but not owning or having access to a plotter/cutter, it's slow going cutting and gluing 6mmx3mm "tiles" individually. Presently , I have less than 2 roof sections left to do, but I'm getting there, pics to follow on that thread soon! Keith.
Cheers guys, if all goes well over the next few years we should see some of the more well known sections of the GW recreated in model form in these pages.
I made up the roof vents but wasn't very impressed with the top as it was simply two pieces of ply in the shape of a V so I ditched these for upturned tea tree candle holders. I think they look much better and I used this method on the shed on Canton Attached files
