I have been working on another of the NER brake Vans, this time the dia V5 Ballast Brake which is fitted with a retractable ballast plough. Either Pythagoras or Archimedes or Mossy has got something wrong but I can't get the plough drawn so went looking for something different.

Anyway I found a drawing of a NER 4 wheeled trolley in one of the express magazines (I can't even remember which one), but it was something different and being small had to be simple. That was mistake one, size is just a distance in Fusion 360, mistake 2 well it's a very simple drawing, lacking in a lot of detail and it's difficult to work out what was what - don't conflate small with simple.

After numerous restarts and with only a passing nod to accuracy this is what I have come up with. For all the inaccuracies I think it looks rather nice sadly it now means I have to go back to that plough, &^%$^^&.

Have a great Christmas everyone, especially the guys who have been of such great help as I learn the black arts of Fusion 360 and 3d printing.

I am sure that it's just the viewing angle but that looks like it should fall over:confused:

I hope that you have a great Christmas too.

Fall over, fall over - oh yeah of little faith Rob.

The wheels are just posed roughly in the right place and there are only 2 of them, the handle is also just posed.

Found its diagram no 62, from NER Express 112.

And time to print - this one should easily work on your Mono.

    Merry Christmas and happy pinting.

    Paul

PS I know you were saving towards a Mono X 6K, but have you seen the price drop on Anycubic's site for the Mono X 4K part of thier Christmas offers

    Hi Paul,

All printing is shut down over the Christmas period so there's hasn't been a chance to print one. Given it's tiny size 50mm x 25mm with a max depth of 10mm I can't think it would be more than an hour and I know 2 would fit easily on the build plate if not 3. I didn't see the cut price offer on the Mono 4 K, very tempting especially since I am well over half way to the asking price, it's just a pity the offer runs out tomorrow any way onwards to the 6k, if/when it becomes available in Europe.

Hope your family having a good Christmas.

    Best wishes

    Mossy

Not unlike the BR or LMS ones found on preserved platforms.
I may need to draw some up soon…

    Hi Andy,

According to the very brief right up a lot of them lasted well into LNER and Br days.

I have attached the article and sketchy diagram for you.

The early BR all steel ones were made by Tubewrights of Liverpool, the decks were wooden planks with metal banding straps screwed down on top.The all timber ones with spoked wheels and the rear wheel external V axle strap are Midland Railway in design... both types are in preservation and exist at Chedd. The original NSR types where the pull handle applied the brakes when in the vertical position were withdrawn as being an extremely dangerous design where porters could be catapulted into the air if the trolley brakes were too sharply adjusted... as happened once at Stoke many years ago and before my time on BR. The BR and MR trolleys carried manually worked wheel scotches held at the rear on a chain, the scotches were cast metal and fitted under the rear wheel, where an uneven platform surface existed porters would set the scotches in order to prevent a run off. Also it was possible to couple these trolleys in multiple where the pull handle connected to a kind of miniature up turned buck eye connector.
