Thanks Andy, A really unusual beast to say the least. According to an article in the NERA Express only 101 converted from C2 to C3, but I can only find one number 32482 as in the photo posting 16 above. Mossy
Rob, I was so motivated by the print I have spent an hour or so soldering up the compensation units for both my prints. I then checked and haven't got any styrene suitable for the floors, that will have to be ordered. Your C3 has printed this morning, its now having cold baths before being loaded into the jacuzzi then it needs to take a cure all a bit like taking the waters in Harrogate. I won't send it over until you tell me your done with that amazing detailed Princess your building. Mossy
Hi Rob, Initially I looked at the Slaters offering, but rejected it a) because it has etched w irons which would cause a rethink of my axlebox/spring w iron prints and b) cost, then I found www.walsallmodelindustries.co.uk who do a cheap simple and cheerful tripod wagon compensation unit for £3:30. I ordered 1 a while ago and just check fit and buffer height etc with one of my prints, then ordered another 9 last Thursday and they arrived Friday, can't get much better service than that can you. Thanks for that, I have used them in the past. In fact I am pretty sure that I still have a set for 3'7" wheels in stock. I think that I got mine when the range was still with Bill Parker (WEP). Something that you might be interested in as an NER man is the Cordon Gas tank Wagon in the range. Although GWR in origin some were bought by the NER exWD after the first world war. I have a WEP kit for one stashed away.
Cheers for that but its a bit late for me, I prefer to stay pre 1914, and yes I noted the 3' 7" version, which I will be using for the carriage wagons etc.
Sorry for the late replys - also been tied up with family stuff all week. However you seemed to have solve the problems sucessfully and produced a great model. Paul
Another one for the NER nuts - the York, Newcastle and Berwick Brake Van from about 1860-70 I have fancied drawing this one for quite a while but other things were taking priority. Give the extremely limited information and photos available for this beast, even Ian Sadler acknowledges a lot of his drawings is a combination of then know, conjecture and best guess. A nice easy wagon to draw up and another one to add to my growing list of wagons waiting to be printed. Mossy
I'd have thought there would have been some form of windows, otherwise seems a bit pointless providing a cabin, as the Gaurd would have to remain outside to observe what was happenng. Paul
Andy, Ian Sadler suggests they were originally passenger brake vans, but after the creation of the NER from it's three main constituents they were rapidly down graded to goods brakes. It isn't clear how long after that they stayed in service. There aren't any photos of a whole van known to exist. Paul. I hate it when someone points out the blindingly obvious omission . I could try suggesting it's a deliberate mistake, but no, Mea Culpa. Yes there should be a window in the cabin door, fortunately easily corrected.
There's always one - and my mother in law - rest her soul, always reckoned it was me Looking very good and unusual Paul
Playtime with the early brake is over, on Saturday I had a trip to Locomotion at Shildon and was seriously taken with the NER snowplough they had on display. Any way Rob kindly provided me with a sketch from an NER book of No 12, the plough on display, so I couldn't resist and have spent most of today doing battle. The sketch wasn't drawn to enable a model to be built from it, it's basically a line diagram with a few dimensions thrown in for good measure, so parts of the model are modelled using a vivid imagination. I have pretty much got the body work done, but frankly haven't a clue how to do the prow of the plough which seems to consist of the intersection of multiple variable arc curves. Any advice as to how to do something like would be really helpful. Sorry I wont be publishing the diagram as it must be copyright protected and there doesn't appear to be a no copy option on the website. It's current rough state of development is:
