Thanks Malc. Its not terribly realistic under close scrutiny but from normal viewing distances it looks reasonable! Matt
Almost finished now, just a coat of flat varnish needed. I'm doing these as an Xmas gift. Enjoyed it and a bit different! Matt
Matt... what can I say... that's just outstanding quality workmanship and I really like the rust weathering effect on the steel mineral wagon. Someone is going to be in for a super Christmas present me thinks .
Thanks Paul, very kind of you! If anyone wants some wagons weathered (although maybe not by Xmas!) contact me. Am I allowed to say that? Matt
Ooh Matt I bet you'll wish you'd never offered . No I can't honestly see anything wrong with letting folk here on the forum know about your skills and that you can be contacted privately for commissions. In fact I'd say the Admins would encourage anyone with good skills which can benefit and help other members and modelers to start making it known that's what they do. I make no secret I construct scenic dioramas and Mr S likewise with his 3D printing. Gloria as another very conscientious modeler down in Cornwall has also worked tirelessly with her partner this last year or so to promote the construction and availability of a portable live steam project, so Platform 1 MRC has many very talented folk all active in what they do... so go for it and the very best of luck.
I have posted this before but I took advantage of the winter sun this morning to take a better picture: Matt
Oh dear Matt what have you gone and done... I fear for your future now, never mind welcome to the mad house where sensible people just ignore and beyond salvation nutters keep on buying to add to their stash of rarely completed engines.
It was a moment of madness. I blame ebay! 7mm aside, the next project on the workbench is a Parkside 20t goods brake van. However, I'm building it to represent one of these mess vans for no reason other than I like it! https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/lmsbrakevan/h3d80761c I've drilled the sides for the wire handrails and also removed the buffers ready for replacements: Things were going swimmingly, until I realised I'd glued one of the sides upside down! Luckily the glue hadn't fully set so I was able to remove it without too much damage, although under close scrutiny, the join will need a bit of filling and sanding later! Matt
Hi Matt your kit building and weathering is excellent, especially the rust affects on the mineral wagon. Look forward to seeing the Slaters kit build.
Thanks Mr Bo-Bo. I'm sure there will be some 7mm kitbuiding at some point however, I hope to get back to this in 2020 too: Matt
Nice work as always Matt, the thing I learnt to watch out for when buying kits from ebay is sometimes (and quite infrequent thank goodness) is sellers use ebay to dispose of partially robbed out kits to recover their initial outlay. One van kit I bought (Slaters) had no solebars in the box and it was evident they had been removed from the sprues, another kit had a lost wax cast sprue of door catches and solebar brackets missing. So nowadays I only buy from reliable sellers I know about and never buy built kits for all the obvious reasons why.
Wise words Paul. I actually went and rechecked the box contents after your post and...no, everything is there! Matt
Glad to know its all there Matt, I just think it would be so disheartening for any enthusiastic modeler branching into a new aspect of the hobby only to find they had been stung by one of the "don't care less" brigade. Anyway I'm looking forward to following all your kit build posts in 2020.
