    Thanks Paul, much appreciated

The rake of sheep vans will be approx 6, four of the Dia 17's like the one above and two of the later plank sided sheep vans (cast resin sides by Peter Armstrong).

When the new layout is done, there will be a custom version of this made with the doors in the open position with ramps loading the sheep in as a fixed diorama.

All sounds very good and i shall follow the new layout build with great interest. I think a custom version with sheep loading from a landing will be inspirational and quite unusual.

    Hi Paul.
Is this proposed new layout going to be a portable one as in, could be on the show circuit, or a fixed shed/loft one? Just asking in case it might venture South of the border in the future?
    Keith.

    Boy are we jumping ahead.
Initial proposal is for 18ft inc the mk4 traverser, but being made so that if required Another bridge can be added to give a 27ft layout.
With the intention of it being exhibitionable, at first under the Dundee MRC banner - I am being allowed to build in the club rooms, but you never know it may travel further.
It will be a Highland Railway based layout circa 1919 to 1921, and based on the Fortrose track plan.
Unfortunately, I was trying to get a 50ft turntable from Midland Model Centre but they are no longer available.
I have managed to get the drawings for a 1903 55ft GER turntable, so may use this instead. Another 3D project I believe ......

If you cannot obtain a turntable to suit how about a triangle like the one that was at Uttoxeter... you could even add in the oil refinery that was near the North box on the Derby leg of the triangle.:avatar:

    Somehow I think I'd need more than 18ft x 2ft(ish) for a Triangle in O gauge :avatar:

Much appreciated, although I may use the woodern mobile ramps as this will give a bit more flexibility on placement and will show more detail to viewers.

I printed up some sheep, and I can squeeze about 8 per level, according to some of the books, the HR fitted upto 100 sheep per van, that is close packing to extreme, and makes the Chinese and Japanese passenger packers look like amatuers :avatar:.

Think I will need to reduce the size of my sheep, and create them over lapping then print as one lump.

They load livestock tightly for safety, stops them falling over.

And here's me thinking they were just Tight Scotsmen :avatar:.

I've being playing about with the sheep - Now Now not like that  :avatar:

    upload_2023-12-15_11-3-8.png

Now theres good and bad news, it should take a couple of hours to print, and the bad news, one sheep load weighs about the same as the full wagon.
The empty wagon is 87g, and the estimated printed weight including supports is 85g. Allowing for the supports a loaded wagon will come in around 250g.

Hopefully will get a test print over the weekend

Nah, you’re both wrong… they come from Derby! (With appologies to any of our Derbyshire followers, especially if you are Rams supporter!)
