Went into my local model shop on Saturday, Topp Trains in Stafford, and browsing the second hand items as I always do I came across a diesel shunter in a Bachmann Junior box - a range I never knew existed. The box was in excellent condition, and on a test run (always an advantage over Internet auction sites) it ran well bar a minor jerk every revolution of the driving wheels. Given the condition of the loco and the box, I considered that to be down to the fact it has never been run in, and at £20 I thought it was a superb little model for the Setforth Junction brewery sidings. After getting it home and checking the moving parts for lubrication and running it round the layout for half an hour (all the time I had) there was a definite improvement, and I'm really pleased with the loco - and I'm now firmly of the belief that it hadn't been used. Note to self - remove uncouplers before taking photos! It may be a bit short on detail (although the side panels are nice and crisp) but that won't be diffcult to fix as time goes by - and it appears to have the same build quality as the rest of the Bachmann range. Hopefully this coming weekend it will continue to improve with some more running in.
Hi Dave, a year or so back I got hold of one of these and the little steam engine in the same range. For the money they are a great buy and you can add as much detailing as you want. I started by removing the black plastic in side the cab and added a driver. Three link couplings look really nice plus I enlarged the buffer heads using drawing pins with the pin removed and then super glued over the existing plastic ones. Weathered up it looked very nice. I ended up adding a DCC decoder and a front and rear lamp. Look forward to seeing what you decide to do with yours.
Hi Dave, it looks very clean. as you say, doubtful that its ever been out the box. excellent buy. they do come along every now and again. cheers toto
I look at the Bachmann Junior Diesel and think that there are several possibilities for On30/O-16.5 conversions.
