Luckily the wife runs a cleaning business industrial degreaser and as you suggest barkeepers friend will do the trick

Feels like I'm getting somewhere. Tender complete bar painting and just a few small details on the loco such as steps and lighting cables

Thanks Rob. Ive barely had time for modelling let alone posting for the last year but will endeavour to do a bit more now things have slowed down at work and home for the meantime. Im normally and LNER man but have a soft sport for Bulleids so one has snuck in. I have a few other future projects (some interesting ones i hope) that ill share in the coming weeks.

Not the greatest model ever, but when i consider what it started out as im quite pleased. theres a couple of bits to add such as drain cock pipework (i accidently knocked it off). the bufferbeam straightens up when the chassis is screwed on so please forgive the gap as the body is just loosely perched on the chassis.

You made a great job out of this not too easy to construct kit, I think all in all you have a superb loco.:tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat: I say because I built his Ivatt 2 tank and most of what I had was either reworked or replaced... that one was a challenge so big respect to you Paul in taking this one on.

Thank you. It wasn't an easy build to say the least. i get the feeling it was never intended as a full kit but an aid to scratchbuilding as ive built kits by the same designer that where much more comprehensive. i just need to paint it now. I've recently been given a badger airbrush by an elderly gent that has given up modelling. once ive got to grips with that i will get it finished.

I was once told his early kits were drawn out on his kitchen table, that was how it was done in those pre CAD days. The one ACME kit I made was a prototype set of test etches... the rivet detail marking was incomplete and I very much got the impression this was an aid to scratch building. May be wrong here but didn't he have a model shop in Leicester years ago?

ive heard a few similar stories. having said that a lot of acme kits are not they're own designs. The Bulleid pacific i have is actually a Jim harris of Oakville/Acorn fame. Jims kits often get a lot of critism and i've got a few of them. Some are good some really poor. The rebuilt west country is at the poorer end of the scale certainly nowhere near as good as the acorn rebuilt merchant navy thats now sold by scorpio. this seems odd to me as they are almost identical in layout if not size. I guess jim learnt a lot designing the west country and corrected a lot of it for the merchant navy.

Going back to Acme i also have a couple of Acme Rebuilt patriots (seem my other thread). the loco in these is actually labelled college models and the tender is a jim harris oakville kit from his 8f/black 5/jubilee kits. so a bit of a misshmash.

I also have an Oakville GWR king in the stash which was designed by Jim too. he later sold this to ACME as well. so while i have 3 different kits that have been sold by acme i've not actually owned one of they're own designs.

starting to get somewhere. just the black on the loco plus the bufferbeams to paint. I guess id best buy some lining for it...
The green is Hataka Red line Deep Bronze Green. Basically the green used on British Army Land rovers. I really like it as it sprays straight out of the tin, lays nice and flat and drys quickly.
