I have bought a 3d printed 016.5 loco kit plus a rtr motor for it off flea bay on a whim. I haven't been able to do much work on my layout/s due to working on my shed, illness and the domestic engineer needing me at the drop of a hat to taxi her and her family. So, I decided to have a stab at building this little loco as a it seems to be a job I can fit in until life improves! Anyway I took some photos with my new "smart" phone, it's definitely smarter than me as I can't work out how to download them to my laptop Anyway I will take some more with my camera and post them up. As per normal it doesn't just stop at that with me!! I have decided to build a micro type layout to run it on and luckily I have some photos I downloaded from the web and I think it will be based on these, anyway have a look and let me know what you think. Whoops, just had a go at uploading them and I'm not allowed, the files too big. I will get back when I am able too! Pete.
Here we go with the kit parts all 3 of them! With bonnet/fuel tank. The loco is based around a Fordson E27 tractor. And now with the roof fitted, the canopy is supported on 4 1mm brass wires unfortunately I've only got 0.5 at the minute This is the motor unit, a Hanazono, I haven't heard of these before and the recommended unit is a Tenshodo that are made of unobtanion! It is a snug fit with about half a mil clearance between the wheels and the body. They come with extended axles that have to be cut down, I used my dremel after masking the inner workings off. And loosely inserted, I will stick it in place after painting with some sticky pads I spotted in the post office 'tother day. I will continue with the build hopefully this weekend. Cheers, Pete.
Yes mate, the quality is excellent! Very smooth with no cleaning up required, only thing I had to do is drill out a hole to accept the mounting lug on top of the motor unit, it was already there, I just had to deepen it slightly. I have seen some tipper type wagons on the Peco site, I think I will order 1 to see how they look and run. Being an empty frame they don't look heavy enough for smooth running, anyway we will see. Pete.
I've used a couple of Hanazono 'bare' motors before Pete, one in each white metal bogie on the "Leader" kit loco I built a while back, and they seem powerful enough for what they are. I think 'Scale Link' used to stock the Tenshodo motor bogies as I've had a couple from them in the past, but I seem to recall they were closing down/retiring so no idea if anyone else took these on. Keith.
I’ve not seen the tenshodo units in over 20 years when I worked in the model shop. We had them for Trams and also converting the Ertl Toby Tram to work on OO layouts. that’s a lovely model..! btw, why do you need to download the photos to your computer? Why not use the web browser on your phone and log in to P1MRC on there and upload straight from your phone? my photos only go on the computer when I back up my phone. Look forward to the painting and build!! andy
Yes, ScaleLink is where I bought my unit, he is closing down and is selling off his remaining stock, unfortunately he didn't have the Tenshodo I required. Ayup Andy, my phone is the first new phone I have had in over 10/12 years and to me I mostly want it for making phone calls and messaging people, everything else it can do is witchcraft to me, I only tried to put my photos to my laptop to see if I could, the message that popped up on the phones screen could have been chinese for all the sense I made of it! It's back to my camera for me! Anyroad, a few more photos taken after painting. I have got it mostly finished bar a driver and weathering, I just forgot to take any pic's as the gaffer wanted picking up... I've also painted the wheels on the motor unit a mucky brown. I also bought a Dinky road crane after seeing one on an O gauge layout at a show which had been updated to make it look less of a toy. I'm going to do the same to mine but I will start a separate thread for that. I will take some photos of the loco and post them up later. Cheers for now, Pete.
