As I’d mentioned on one of Mr Fays posts, a nearby NMR (North Midland Railway) station has been restored to its original glory. today whilst passing from else where in Derbyshire we called in. the line was built by Stevenson A number of items have been dotted around the site including this original crest from Derby station. the usual sugg light on LMS posts. it featured a rather unusual window, which was apparent in the yard areas and also on the opposite side on the platform. One was a toilet window for the ladies. This was the ladies waiting room and had a very nice stone fire place which was originally painted to look like marble. That has been recreated. The wallpaper was a special print where they managed to salvage a sample to recreate. I’ve seen similar but that was a flock finish. the main waiting room looking out. The marquette flooring has been replaced with stone slabs but other than fitting fire suppressant systems and a burglar alarm, they have had to go with floor lit lights as originally it would have been candle lit. So no gas or electric lights allowed on the walls. another fire place in the booking area, although this station never had any partition. The door to the left was to the porters room. as there was a guided tour going on at the time I was unable to photograph everything. Well worth looking up for a visit!
It's been mentioned several times on the 'Derbyshire Live' website, it's only about 3 miles from where I live and I've led several walking groups past it in the early stages of restoration, but not got around to having a look since it reopened recently. I must go and have a look when I have the chance. Keith.
