Gents (and ladies), further to my intro a few days ago here is a brief overview of my layout. This is my 2nd attempt at an N Gauge layout, my first being Elmgrove. Elmgrove was kind of thrown together after change of circumstance/location dictated OO was no longer viable. As time progressed I would add more sidings adjust existing track etc, but almost everytime I did this I would find some other part of the layout would not work properly. I took the decision to rip the whole thing up and start from scratch. After taking a few weeks to decide what I wanted on the layout - limited to 6x6 in a shed - I then begun to draw up track plans including how it would be wired as I am "old school" analogue. After several rainforests were decimated with the amount of paper I went through, I reached a layout which is not too complex but would give plenty options to run trains and also carry out more refined movements. Baseboard construction began late 2013 and progressed quite quickly (helped in no small measure by generous time off in my shift pattern!). The layout has a mixture of Peco track types, and buildings are almost exclusively Metcalfe or ready built, platforms are balsa wood with Metcalfe card on top. Over the 2 and a bit years I have stuck pretty much hard to the plans, although if I see something at an exhibition I like I would try to accommodate it. There are a few features which are quite personal to me - the "big" house in the corner with party & BBQ going on, dragons in the woods beneath the castle ruins & a tribute to "The Sidings" just north of York where I spent a brilliant 50th birthday long weekend. I tend not to take "proper" photographs of the layout, more mobile photos for social media, but my preference is for moving pictures so I do have a lot of video. Just prior to Christmas 2015 I took a video showing a 360 view of the layout as it was then, due to a variety of reasons there have only been minor additions since then. https://youtu.be/c29BY2ANi_w
Layout looks great, Whilst watching the video, I had forgotten that it is N gauge ! Well done on a great layout and thanks for sharing the video. Cheers, Gary.
A series of short clips showing some of the more "refined" moves other than just running trains which are possible. With the limited scope of analogue operation, these provide great satisfaction to me - although my language during the wiring etc was often not publishable! Great videos. You have a nice collection of loco's and rolling stock there. The layout is well advanced as well. Really nice to see it. thanks for sharing. toto
I reckon this is a perfect example of how much you can put in with N scale, great layout and enjoyable vids thanks. Ian
For a whole variety of reasons I have not spent as much time in the shed as I'd have liked over the past couple months. I have managed a couple of running days in the past 2 or 3 weeks though. Multiple units day: https://youtu.be/rmYVMUffT5E https://youtu.be/u-N2xTx-JfY Scottish MGR the way I remember them: https://youtu.be/UY5qvCfJtI8 And finally the loco everyone is foaming at the mouth about on the 12 inch:1 foot railway: https://youtu.be/36DKgFpbINE
I'm still at the Glenrothes show but I'll get a look at these when I get back tonight. great to see you again. cheers toto
Cracking videos Derek, I like the trackwork, the ballasting is spot on, it looks like a real railway . Cheers, Pete.
