Hi guys just looking for some input been messing around with some track but have no idea if this is a viable plan operationally any advice or criticism greatly recieved if you need to know more just ask as all my ideas are in my head. Thanks in advance Andy
Well, You won't run short of operational interest that's for sure. Some of the ends beyond the points could restrict the length of your intended trains a bit unless you intend to extend them through a bit. Ok if it's purely for shunting short trains though. Is the plan part of something bigger or is it the complete item in terms of size ? It certainly looks exciting. You could spend hours just shunting around it. A bit more inf on how you plan using it would be helpful but a great start regardless. What kind of stock do you have to run on it ? Cheers toto
I've only got a few late steam locos that I brought with me from the UK. This is just the small station on one side the idea I sort of had was that long trains would drop of some wagons here and collect some then head off on there way. I've missed a crossover between the platforms to allow connection from the two goods yards. One of the main goods will be livestock to the main terminus on the other side of the layout. Sorry about the mess !!
Mess ..... Nah .... It's a very familiar sight. I could show you a mess. Looks like a Teriffic railway room you have there. I'm jealous. No problems building in some nice long runs there. I like the idea of the livestock. The smell of fresh poops. Ahhhhh. Keep us posted with your progress. Looks like this is going to be a cracker. Cheers Toto
Thanks. It will be a long process but it should be good in the end theres no rush been at it for about 9 months so far. What can i say the wife likes cow's
I don't think it's a hobby where you want to rush it anyway. It's a lifelong hobby that changes all the time. It's always good to keep the missus on board as well otherwise the funding dept could dry up.
Nice plan Andy, I would agree with Toto, siding lengths, they can never be to long. Some loverly woodworking skills there, nice simple way to drop to the lower level. The viaduct ...I assume this will be on the upper level? Do you have a plan for the remaining boards ? Great start to your layout thread Kim
Ive been on and off with this hobby since my dad bought me my first train set as it goes with most of us i guess, but ive started many and never finished any so this could be the one
Thanks Kim I'm a bit restricted because of the curved decline but I'm going to possibly raise up the sidings that go over the decline for maximum length I can't really do anything with the front siding because of the curve to the viaduct. There's 3 crossings a four track viaduct at the top level with another four track behind it at the lower level and a double track across the front. As i said earlier if you was standing in the room i could explain it because its mostly in my head.
Three crossings..10 tracks ..amazing how much you can squeeze in with n-gauge.. Good to have a plan in your head, but at some point you need to get it down on paper as it’s amazing what you miss or forget...how do I know this ?? Would be great to meet up, if your up for it, either yours or mine Kim
I know it's the main reason I like it, was going to hide the four at the back but ive now put a crossing in so I can loop the lower section. Meet up sounds good I've just managed to get myself a job but don't start till I get back im off to cyprus next weekend for my son's wedding but I'm sure we can sort something out. I've got rough ideas of the rest of the plan but it always changes when you start playing with track, the through station started off the other wall round I reversed it to make good use of the space.
