Sounds good to me Ian ...... When do we start. Ed, That is not hood news. You had come a long way with Latton Fields. However, I am king of the axe so I know the feeling when you look at what you've done and start losing enthusiasm with it. It is a part of the hobby but still soul destroying at the same time. One Good thing I take out of these opportunities ( and I've had a couple now ) is that you are starting off with a blank canvas again. I think you are doing the right thing with the insulfrogs. Electro frogs may take a little more work but the increase in reliability is worth it. So, happy new layout I'll look forward to following Latton Street. Enjoy the fresh start. I'll look forward to seeing the track plan up on lights. Cheers for now Ed Toto
Its a sad thing when the axe falls on a project but when the mojo fails its good to make a fresh start, you aren't alone, I think most of us have been in your position, me, more than once. So, take heart, you will have learnt from Latton Fields, and Latton Street will benefit. Right no time to waste, whats the next job........ Cheer's, Pete.
G`day Ed, I guess it`s hard to bring ones self to these decisions after all the work that had gone into Latton Fields, but you are moving forward armed with experience and knowledge and the promise of better equipment and better running. That`s a good way forward..... http://www.clickGormo
Wow, that was a decision made and promptly applied. Even the Government took longer than that ! Did you have any locals of Latton Fields out with their placards "Save Our Railway Ed !" Looking forward to the birth of Latton Street. Now, Which bus do I take to Latton Town ?? Cheers, Gary.
Thanks for the encouragement guys. Latton Fields was originally conceived as a late LNER/early BR single main line steam era layout, with the occasional green diesel, so it never was going to adapt very well to modern image trains. One of my main concerns was that all the base boards are bracketed to the walls, so if we ever move the whole lot would have to be broken up. The new set up will be modular, with individual boards bolted together which will just sit on top of the current boards. The layout can be taken apart and moved, which just leaves the old boards around the garage which can be used as a shelf or removed. I will also be able to have each board covered by a dust sheet when not in use, as the amount of dirt that accumulates in the garage is quite incredible and creating a 'train room' within the garage is just not feasible. Ed PS You need to hop on one of these Gary.... https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2a/London_country_NBC_bus_AN18_Leyland_Atlantean_PDR1_Park_Royal_JPL_118K_in_Harlow_Bus_Station%2C_Essex_August_1979.jpg
Still lots to be decided regarding buildings, platforms, etc. Toto, but I'll post the track plan on a new thread later on. I did get the wood for the new base boards earlier in the week, but it took Wickes four attempts before they actually delivered what I ordered. Ed
Incredible Ed. hardly rocket science. Still, at least you have it now. Looking forward to the new beginning.
I am in the same boat now too Ed, Planning building locations etc.....best not to rush it but think it through and do it once... http://www.clickGormo
