I'm getting to the point where I need to decide on paint and livery for my Connoisseur 02 kit build, Jim suggests using HMRS decals, and I'm undecided wether to go for Maunsell Green/White lining or BR Black with Red/Grey lining. The problem (if it is in fact a problem) is that HMRS decals are available in "Pressfix" using finger pressure and water, or "Methfix" using a water/Methylated Spirits mix and finger pressure. I've never used HMRS decals, my supplier of choice is Fox Transfers, but they don't appear to do the BR lining in 7mm scale except for an M7 which is not much use, strangely they do it in 4mm though as I've used it previously. What exactly is 'finger pressure' with HMRS decals, is this more of a 'sticker' than decal, doesn't sound like my usual 'Waterslide' decals to me? The other problem if I were to go for BR with HMRS is that one set is only available in "Pressfix", the other in both "Pressfix" and "Methfix" and I don't fancy mixing the two so not sure where to go with this. As an alternative, can anyone suggest a different decal supplier who has this in 7mm in their range as long as it's not "Modelmaster/Jackson", having had problems with this supplier in the past. I gather that He has now stopped doing decals anyway having decided to go into politics as an SNP MP candidate, no loss to the modelling trade! Keith.
I’ve used presfix and methfix in the past. They’re fine, just put the decal where it need to be, press gently then apply the required liquid with a brush, then remove the paper from the top of the decal. Not really a sticker, the liquid just dissolves the glue. Must say I much prefer waterslide.
So the HMRS ones are a bit like the old "Letraset" stuff then, but 'fixed' by applying a liquid instead? I must say that, like yourself, I prefer 'Waterslide'! Keith.
Of the three types, I prefer methfix, followed by waterslide and if I can't get anything else pressfix. You can revive old press fix transfers where the stickiness has gone by treating them as methfix. The meths softens the glue and makes it sticky again. Although I must admit to using Microsol/Microset instead of meths with Methfix transfers these days.
