Hi again! I've had a good day finishing off some DCC projects and playing trains today and I thought I should put up some pics of my On30 layout. This layout was inspired by Carl Arendt's Peeks Pike. It was originally built as a OO layout almost 10 years ago but I moved onto a bigger OO project at the time so it was pulled apart and forgotten about until I bought a Bachmann Gas Mechanical loco (the green diesel in the pics). Initially, the fiddle yard was just a cassette the lined up with the tracks on the board, but I found that to be rather bothersome so I build a fiddle yard with a sector plate and an extra siding. Just recently, I decided to open up the scenery where the train left the main board put some scenery on part of the fiddle yard so the view through the exit looked like it continued on. I must take some new photos to show some of the little changes that make it seem bigger, like the mirror in the brick warehouse at the front. I should also mention that all the buildings except the flat on the backscene are scratch built as are all the wagons (on hornby OO 10' wheelbase chassis). Once again, I hope you all like the pics and let me know if you have any questions. Hi Ian Great first post for the On30 micro. The first photo with the porter really makes it look like the layout goes well beyond the overhead conveyer. How's your progress with the DCC bus wiring of the train room?
Hi Ian, That is a great little layout, simple and very effective. I like the use of magnets to hold the low relief buildings in place whilst the glue dries, ingenious. . Can I ask how you go about uncoupling ? Do you have Kadee 308 magnets burried under the track ? Also, a pic of your fiddle yard would be handy. Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Chris and Gary. Chris - the DCC bus is done and connected to the OO and On30. I haven't connected the N yet but everything else works well. The sound boxes are done too and seem to work well - just need to tweek some cv's. Gary - I've got a couple of kadee surface mounts that I'm trying in a few spots. When I built it I only had a magnet on the cassette. I'll try to take a pic or 2 of the fiddle yard tonight. Ian
I like the idea of extending the scenics into the fiddle yard area, it gives the impression the tracks go some where .
Thanks for posting the pics of the fiddle yard Ian. I do like the simple set up of having the single line fiddle yard having access to the 3 individual entries/exits. Cheers, Gary.
That's a great little layout and a nifty little fiddle yard ! how are the tracks aligned ? by hand ? or some hidden method ?? Cheers Matt
Thanks Matt and Toto. The fiddle yard is currently aligned by hand but I have plans to fit stop blocks for to outermost tracks and a recessed magnet and metal plate to align the middle one. Ian
Hi Ian You could try a cam and spring. The spring holds the traverser against the cam, rotating the çam moves the traverser. Paul
