    Ok,

Now entering the construction phase. It's a trip to B and Q tomorrow for 9mm plywood for the baseboard build. I will tidy up the final track plan to straighten out the geometry since the substitution of a left hand point with a Y for the centre siding.

    Cheers for now

    Toto

Patience now ....... All in good time. :avatar:

It will be DCC and operate with Cobalts,A mixture of Town Street low, full and half relief buildings, a 360 degree single road sector plate. Rolling stock will be. Mixture of An Ixion Fowler & Hudswell Clarke, a kit built Connisuer ( spelt incorrectly ) models 0-4-0 tank. Wagons will be a mixture of Dapol RTR, Parkside Dundas and Connisuer models kit builds in both plastic and etched brass.

The DCC control will be courtesy of NCE and the Cobalts will be operated via the handset via a switch 8.

Baseboards will be 9mm ply and supports will be a mixture of white wood strapping and a sandwich style cross bracing for intermediate supports.

A bearing is still being sourced for the sector plate.

    A doddle really.

    Cheers

    Toto

I take it that with a 360* rotating sector plate, that this layout cannot be operated against a wall...? :scratchchin:
    Cheers, Gary.

It's a go  Been the worst kept secret on Platform1 :avatar:

A small lazy Susan bearing you will need two one above to support the track section the other needs to go under to use as a preload for the bearings with the centre bolt through the two and tensioned to make sure there is preload this takes any slop out of the bearings and you get perfect Alignment

    Well,
got baseboard 1 of 2 done this afternoon. A couple of intermediate supports to fit yet but thats for later. My daughter is on her way back from Florida and she has been bitten. She has taken a reaction to the bite so its off to A & E when she gets back around five or six oclock.
anyway, here is my progress so far.

This is what we started with, Then I sandwiched a couple of sheets of nine mm ply together. First I ripped a six inch strip of the top layer. My idea is that my Town Street buildings will be built on the six inch strip and dropped in. They can be removed for travelling or storage reducing the chance of damage.

Next up I set about making up the ends and the sides.

And some sandwich style intermediate supports which need trimmed and fitted.

The ends are now going on. One of the ends is two sheet thick as this is the adjoining board with the sector plate ( 2nd board ) which will be getting fitted with dowels etc so the thickness is required. the outer board ends are just one sheet thick ( 9mm )

And jumping on a few stages but there we are.

You can see the lower section where the Town Street dioramas will drop into.

    And the under side,
    [IMG]

    and again,
    [IMG]

    The long shot ......

and the last shot for now.
All questions / comments etc as usual ......... fill yer boots.cheers

    Hi Ian,
It is external grade so once its had a couple of coats of varnish to seal it, it should be fine. Its the same stuff I have used on the R & GLR and Ordgait.
Baseboard two with the sector plate will be next weekend when I get back.

I'm sure someone will, or will have too.

    Two Lazy Susan's doesn't make a hyperone.

Nice progress Toto, pity you cant get the varnish on before you leave.

That's not a baseboard, that's an ark ! I know it rains a lot in Scotland, but surely you would need something slightly larger ! :avatar::avatar:

Quality craftsmanship there Toto, looks strong enough to hold up two oxen !

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hi Gary,

It is a bit of a beast but it needs to take a bit of punishment being moved in and out of the shed and banged about a bit. Nice sturdy ends for joining to the second baseboard.
it'll be mainly used outside on legs / trestles when weather permits or inside in the kitchen area but shifted back into the shed after use.

hopefully the second baseboard build will go as smoothly as the first with a nice reliable sector plate/ turntable.

    cheers
