The Dingham Autocoupler, originally developed by Trevor Shaw These are an electromagnetic delayed coupling system, now available from the Gauge O guild in both O and OO versions. Supplied as two etches with enouh parts to do 20 to 24 wagons. Full instructions are provided, and I've also bought two coils to uncouple them. One of the advantages is these just replace the normal coupling hook. A video of them in use I have two packets so should have enough for my current needs. Paul
Brian Anderson uses Dinghams on his WD shunting layout and they are generally quite good as long as all adjusted the same and all your stock runs in the one direction
Hi Chris Seemingly - according to the distructions, for locomotives double ended operation can be achieved (allows loco's to be turned and still work), by combining the loop type coupler with a type 1 latch coupling (will not work with the simpler type 2 latch - ). It is emphasised will not as well as the couplings do in single end mode. Now I will admit there is a lot of reading required to ensure these are built and installed correctly, but they certainly look to be a good solution, and worth the effort in trying. I feel the need for a shunting layout Paul
There is a lad on the 7mm Scale Society forum who has designed a system called The Flippem that is inspired by the Dingham and is compatible. It is also able to couple up on curves where the Dingham sometimes struggles. It is also a bit more sturdy so hopefully not so fragile. Price wise, not so different. Pete.
