Some very nice looking baseboard construction there @Vinylelpea - I look forward to seeing how things progress
Some track layed. Not set in stone. Just testing at the moment. I have limited sets of points. Everything seems to be working fine at the moment.
Nice to see some track ideas being tried out. As a suggestion.....that head shunt at the top of the left hand sidings could be a bit longer if it doesn`t interfere with your ideas. Do you have any plan to insulate the shed..????....it may get pretty hot in there when Summer comes.... Gormo
Hi Gormo, I had in mind to run the head shunt to a turntable, but still thinking about it. Will wait till the rest of the track is laid and see where it leads me. Plenty of room to add to the head shunt. Will be insulating the shed a some point. Waiting for lockdown to finish so iIcan see what I can get that's cheap. Phil
Fair enough Phil........it will be strange going out shopping after lock down. Anyway......all sounds good in your shed.....I`m the same sometimes.....I start a project and it evolves as it moves along......nothing wrong with that and I look forward to watching your progress. Gormo
Someone been busy....well a bit busier than me...looking good...always wanted a freight train set when I was little but made do with adding auto racks to my XPT set in the 80s.
As you can see from, The title change, I'm loosely basing my Layout on the Stony Point line. Got the first train to do a full loop of the shed. Been busy testing and re testing laid track. Had to make some adjustments after the earthquake. Currently waiting on 8 peco points to finish the trackwork.
It`s good that you are testing and re-testing at this stage.......saves a few headaches later on down the track when you`ve got scenery on top of everything as well. Keep up the good work........ Gormo
Are you modelling the Terminus of the line at Stony Point It’s definitely a unique station and worthy of a model
That's the Plan. Fantasic terminus. I was Hoping to include my local station in Bittern, but I don't think I'll have enough room. Still yet to finish laying the branch line so there's hope yet.
We are on the Incline or decline, which ever way you look at it. Branch line heading towards Stony Point. Thanks to the thread on Inclines, which pointed me in the right direction and made me test out my math skills. http://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/index.php?threads/inclines.5329/ will post a plan of the layout. I had an idea in my head. Then started planning in any rail. The plan I came up with was completely different. Started laying track and in the following months, ended up going with what I had originally planned, but is still a work in progress. I'm more a hands on person and prefer to plan as I go.
That is a nice gentle incline and does not look steep at all. That older Lima B class will haul anything up there as they were built reasonably strong ! Cheers, Gary.
Track now laid. Still testing. Branch line raises too 140mm above main line. Very happy so far. Any suggestions welcome. Still tweaking. And able to make changes. Looking forward to doing some wiring, the moving on to some scenery. If anyone knows how I can ballast the track without using glue, I Would be happy to know. Cheers
This is a great start to you layout build and you have some very nice friends along with some great purchases. Your layout is coming together nicely and that incline does look nice and gentle. Looking forward to seeing more of your build.
I think you'll need PVA for the ballast regardless. I had seen one layout where the owner used baking paper strips under the track so the glue would not adhere to the baseboard, keeping all the ballast around the sleepers only. Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Gary. I like the points to have a bit of up and down play, just like the real railway. I think they work better this way, about 1mm play. May do some experimenting with application of ballast. But I'm not too bothered if I have to do without.
Model of the Stony Point Station building. Made with balsa wood Scalescenes papers and matchstick. Also serviced two VR S class locos.
Dear Vinylepea, a very nice model of Stony Point's railway ( not train ) station building, though I was unaware that we had to watch out for albino crocodiles at Stony Point ! Regards Echidna
