Sydney Metro - 'Front/Drivers Cab' Track View..

    27/05/2019, 4:10pm Service - Arrive Chatswood 4:47pm

Tallawong to Chatswood trip. Come for a ride on the new Sydney Metro Transport System as we take 'front seat'..

Fully automated metro trains. They still have manual driver controls under a panel at each end.

There was no public 'crush' as like those who rode on Day 1 - Sunday, 26/05/2019..!!

I'll try it out, but I'm in no hurry. I can walk out my door, walk across the road and catch an express bus to the City which, if it's off peak (and that's normally when I would be catching it), will get me to Wynyard in around 40-45 minutes.

With the new Metro, I have to walk or catch a bus for 1.4km, catch a train from Castle Hill to Chatswood, then change for a train to Wynyard. A trip of more than an hour, using two or three modes of transport.....

The ride was fun and reminded me closely of all those similar networks overseas. Accelerates and decelerates smoothly and consistently. One set of doors was out of service but otherwise ok. Metro staff everywhere. One thing I did not realise was that this new system is AC not the traditional DC. No wonder there was a fair bit of work converting the older Epping to Chatswood line over to AC. Wish we had known that so we could have recorded the last double decker DC train to run on the Epping to Chatswood line. While it may not be convenient for all, other passengers from the outer north west are reporting that it saves them one hour each way on their morning commute.

    Cheers

I finally got around to trying the Metro out yesterday.

Late in the morning, I crossed the road and caught a 610X bus to the City, total travel time around 45-50 minutes. Later, around 4.00pm, on my way home, I caught a train from Central to Chatswood and the Metro from Chatswood to Castle Hill (yes, I know, going to Epping rather than Chatswood would have saved almost ten minutes, although my guess is that you would lose five of those saved minutes changing platforms, unless Epping station was deserted). I then had a 25 minute walk home, although catching a bus for that rather short leg of the journey would have taken off 10-15 minutes or so. Total travel time was somewhere between 1hr 10 min and 1 hr 15 min. The seats were comfortable enough, but I do find sometimes that travelling sideways sitting down gives me a slight case of motion sickness - only very slight this time thankfully.

So, I have now tried it, but I can't see me becoming a regular user.
