I realise I am yet to post the finished builds of either the N or the OO model... well, they will follow. I’m still waiting the acurascale Oleo buffers for the OO model as I managed to damage one when working on the chassis. So I’m waiting till these arrive before adding any complete photos, other than the ones I took the other day of it on the Spencer’s Yard diorama box file. It’s still waiting the fitting of the Air res distributor and the air res tank which sit under the end support on the chassis at the brake wheel end. I’ll try and do a feature on these next, but they are a purchase from another modeller on Shapeways. Although, they are dam fine models! Andy
Well Mr UPS arrived with a parcel this morning with the next instalment in the PAA modelling. This is wagon top 3 of 4 (two closed and two open versions) Both ends differ. One has the pneumatic ram for opening the door the other a small lock to secure the kids shut. More updates as it progresses.
So this is where you learn from prototyping. Here is the sprue with the “other” bits of the conversion kit, ladder, new ends, brake wheels and the lower door rams. Unfortunately, the sprue was a little too connected to the parts and some broke when being separated. Back to the drawing board for the next one with some tweaks. (All the parts were saved from this and mended with Super glue)
Ok, to bring this thread to a conclusion, I will start a new topic on the conversion of the Hornby PGA to a PAA using the kit I have designed. I have a few more photos to take and I will make a start on it tomorrow. It will be based on the first batch of the PAA by WH Davis (Not the Standard Wagon Co version which was at dual door) as the single door built around 1982. These would have worked from Middleton Towers from this point up until the second month of 2018. Some 36!! Years, which other than the standardisation of the single doors to dual door, is remarkable for an unmodified design to last so long. These would have run to Worksop (Notts) and Doncaster (S York’s) for anyone modelling this area/period and from 1986 used from Oakamoor to St Helens (Merseyside) till 1988. A train worth modelling for its unique appearance. I hope to start this article around Thursday and I will try and include some working drawings also from my computer designing as well as those from making the kit. Andy
Just as a change... I’ve modelled the same wagon in N gauge (after a request from a customer) Printed the transfers last week, got around to sticking them on this morning. Sadly, one was over scale for the Farish wagon as the rib spacing on the side is incorrect. But it could be left off as not all wagons carried it. I’m happy with it though.
