I've just had delivery this morning from Railtec of a 3D smokebox number and shed plate with cab side number set for my LMS 4F loco, what is truly amazing is I placed and paid for the order on Thursday afternoon 27th Aug and postie delivered my order this morning at 10.00am 29th Aug. The smokebox plate and number are raised printed lettering and have to be ordered specially so I was prepared to wait their lead tiime, in the same order I asked for some 6 inch Gill Sans White numerals which were used with unlined black goods engines and thought these may well come first as they are stock items. Great comms from Steve at Railtec and a superb product but the best part of it is the whole order with 1st Class Royal Mail postage was only just £12, I have no connection with Railtec other than being one extremely satisfied customer, so from now on my waterslide transfer requirements will go to his business. I'll report the application process on my 4F thread but I'm not expecting any issues whatsoever.
That's what you'd call service Paul, pity other small businesses (naming no names!) don't give this kind of speedy order turnaround service. Looks to be nice stuff too! Keith.
Well without going into the details of a previous enquiry regarding another bespoke request and very definitely staying away from the business politics and policies of other traders (as there is no place here for either rants or political stuff) but this service is amazing, however I will still have to use the other supplier for Off White 8 and 10 inch Gill Sans steam loco numbering for now. Steve at Railtec admits he is more of a diesel follower and the steam era stuff is an area he is not that familiar with.
They do look very good Paul, I think I’ll give them ago with my next order, mind you, I don’t think I’ll get the same delivery time.
l like the look of these transfers, they appear very sharp and smokebox lettering and shed plate are raised profile. One thing to be aware the Gill Sans font for 7mm scale steam on standard sheets comes in a letter height of either 1-3 inch and 3 - 6 inch either white or pale cream, so the scale 6 inch lettering (3.5mm) would be correct for the 4F, 3F, Jinty and various other goods and tank engine types. The BR standard height 8 inch cream for mixed traffic engines or the larger 10 inch and 12 inch for Scottish Region locos isn't on listing but I dare say Steve would accommodate if you wanted a complete sheet of that size, he does do the 8, 10 or 12 inch option as a bespoke single block transfer for a specific loco number, I just asked him to reduce to 6 inch white for my 4F.
If you get unstuck and want some white 6 inch cabside numbers for you 4F I will pop you a few in the post for you but they will be single number transfers.
Ah, but that doesn’t make you broaden your horizons. Imagine if I said I wasn’t doing signs as I don’t know anything about them, only buildings... I’m sure he will, but is he duplicating by doing so with someone like John Isherwood at Cambridge custom transfers?
