G`day Folks, Take 2.....had this in the wrong place. Hugh Flynn`s track designs as requested by Toto http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24472 This is a 34 page resource from the RMWeb archive. http://www.clickGormo
Yes gents, Hugh was quite prolific there for a good while churning out plans by request. He has left a great resource there in the archives with many a good plan to be had, especially for those considering a plank. Hats off to Hugh Flynn......... http://www.clickGormo
https://www.amazon.com/Adventurous-Model-Railway-Plans-Postlethwaite/dp/1852606134 is an interesting read which I found at my local library. Google this adventurous model railway plans and there are oodles of images as well
I know this is a little stale post but Ill see if anyone is here (not sure where to ask this). I'm thinking of trying to work on a Multi deck layout, something that is maybe 4x10 foot with a helix at one end to allow moving from level 1 to level 2. After my most recent move the current layout didn't really survive to well and is more of a hassle then its worth putting back together this new one would be something put on casters so i can just wheel it into the back of the truck next move. Anyway, Ill take a look at these plans and see if anything can sort of fit int what i'm after, any thoughts on if a Helix will even work on what i'm talking about would be appreciated . Cheers, Wombat
Hi Wombat, I'm sure a couple of members have tackled helix's before. May just be a case of locating the threads. I'm sure someone will chime in. Cheers Toto
Hi Wombat We have a helix on the club layout that works really well However looking at the size constraints of your planned layout a helix is going to be taking up a good chunk of the realestate if in HO you will be sacrificing 4x4 and I’d suggest peco set track for use in the helix with the radius required If N scale you will have a bit more space left over so may be a good option Just remember a lot of track goes into a helix as it goes from one level to another A google search of model railway helix gets lots of ideas and photos If you skip to 4:35 in this video you will see one of my trains descend the helix on the club layout
Gormo I cannot get the link to open any chance of posting it again? I am searching for some plan ideas for my proposed HO layout.
G`day Graeme, I have been trying all sorts to find this info once again on RMWeb to no avail. Any links I try will not re-direct..?????.........this info may be lost in the archives of RMWeb somewhere.??? During my searches though I have found this resource of American track plans https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/track-plan-database-index I`m not sure if it is of any help to you....but that`s all I`ve got at the moment. Sorry. Gormo
Thanks Gormo, What I am looking for is a plan for an L shaped layout, preferably double track but not essential, to fit in a small 10Ft x 6Ft area but only about 3-3.5 feet wide. I have some HO track, locos and rolling stock left over from my old HO layout I had before moving into the garden scale, I am finding it to hot to work on my garden layout during the middle of the day so I have decide to hibernate in the shed till it cools down. Any help from anybody greatly appreciated
G`day Graeme, The width makes it quite a challenge to find something interesting to work with..... Gormo
Gormo I am thinking along the lines of an L shape double track about 3'6" wide so I can get 18" curves at each end. Will even go 2 levels if I can get the lines up and down without resorting to helix's. Plan is to have it on a shelf 1300mm off the shed floor so I can run storage tracks for the G Scale under it. I have 3 locos that will negotiate 18" curves a Shay, an 0-6-0 and a 2-8-0. The heavy mountain I have must have 22" curves min so it may end up being sold. Graeme
OK Gotcha Graeme, It`s just that in post #14, I read " 3-3.5 inches wide." as three to three and a half inches wide. Gormo
Doh Doh !! I meant 3-3.5 Feet wide, actually if I can get it 2.5 Feet wide that would be a bonus. (post # 14 edited to reflect correct size) My stumbling block is the corner of the L and accessing in case of a derailment, I need 3 feet or arms length from the back and the size of the loops at each end. I really am not interested in point to point that much, but could incorporate a plank in front for interest. Maybe I can just fill in the corner with scenery or maybe a curved trestle (my go to type of scenery). Now I am thinking dual level, this has got my brain ticking over so maybe a few sleepless nights are on the cards. Thanks for being a sounding board and feel free to chime in with suggestions.
OK......nothing springs to mind at the moment.....but I`ll search what I`ve got and see if I can turn up anything. Gormo
